We zullen zeker vaker hier komen eten. Ik geef 10 +

“Buzzing atmosphere and Delicious food”
We came here following a walk through the local market and it was SUCH a treat. We had a 15minute wait for seats because the place was crowded and constantly buzzing. When we got seats though we were served to well and immediately with a friendly and banterous waiter. The food itself was incredibly good value, so cheap for how much we got and so delicious. Even though I ate to the point of being over-full I had loads left and asked to take it home in a box and eat for lunch tomorrow - everyone seemed to take boxes away with them so it must be a common occurance.
Great vibe, perfect price and really worth going here and to De Pijp in general!

“Very popular and very busy”
We've been here several times over the past few years. It's always a delight to eat their food although the restaurant is small so it can be a wait to find a table. The bakabana is particularly crispy and tasty. Nice place to visit at least once if you want to experience Indonesian Surinamese cuisine (which is different to solely Indonesian food).

This place is worth a visit. Try and make a reservation. The food is perfect for virtually all palettes and dietary restrictions. I had a rice and cod fish dish which was simple and delightful, but there were various meat and vegetarian options. Highly recommended after museum visits. It's a short walk from the Museum Quarter, and there is no shortage of pre dinner drink places nearby.

Cute, little restaurant hidden in a street vertical to Ferdinand Bolstraat in de Pijp.
It is usually packed, no one wonders why as it serves fresh Surinamese food which is authentic, super tasty and cheap. You will see cars stopping to collect orders, people waiting to be seated. And in this small chaos, people in the kitchen do their magic and everyone leaves with a big smile. This is food is REAL! Got my dish for 6.50 EUR. My friend got the special for around 10 EUR or below. Got a doggy bag as and a free rotti to go. Love this place!

“Excellent and unique eating experience”
As an American I would never have thought the Surinamese food would be such an excellent option while visiting Amsterdam. Arrived during the lunch rush when most people are getting food to go so there were plenty of places to sit. Server was courteous explained the menu without any problems. I ordered the roti kip and it was excellent. I liked the large portions, and really appreciated the spice. The restaurant is in proximity to Albert Cuypmarkt and can be reached easily by tram. I sampled several of the Surinamese establishments in the area and this was one of the best.

“Cheap and delicious”
I first visited Spang Makandra several years ago when visiting Amsterdam with a group of friends. We had stopped off at the bar across the road to search for a place to eat lunch in our guide book when we got talking to an English couple who advised us to go there. They told us they didn't speak much English but the food was superb. Upon arriving we were given the menu in Dutch so told the waiter to bring us chicken dishes as there was a very big language barrier. Whatever he brought us back was so tasty we were amazed.
Fast forward a few years and a bit of Google mapping as I had forgotten the name of this place my boyfriend and I visited when we were in Amsterdam. We arrived at about 8pm on a Sunday evening and the place was packed! We had to wait outside for a free table, which was fine as it was very mild for December. We waited about 20 minutes and then were given a table. We picked one of the most expensive dishes in the menu (which was now in English too) at 10€ which was fried rice, friend noodles, salad, chicken satay, potato dumpling and I think another curry (although my memory could be wrong). The plate was piled high and everything was amazing, although it wasn't the same dish as I had before which was my main aim for the evening. There was a lot of food and I couldn't finish mine. My partner said it was one of the best meals he'd eaten abroad and for under 25€ I think the cheapest and most satisfying. I am visiting Amsterdam again this summer and will be making a trip to Spang Makandra.

Wij hebben genoten! Vooral dankzij de bijzonder leuke, jonge Surinaamse vrouw naast ons die ons hielp de bestelling te plaatsen. Dank en aanbeveling voor iedereen!

Excellent food; very reasonably price; small resta
The food here is superb. You won't be disappointed. I think the €€ is misleading. Almost every item is under €10 but definitely doesn't compromise on taste. As for ambiance, the restaurant is the definition of hole in the wall. It is extremely small but matters not once you're enjoying the meal with your friend(s).
